Kicking off our NHS70 celebrations with International Nurses Day

International Nurses Day Celebration

We are calling on nurses and midwives of the past, present and future to celebrate International Nurses’ Day and International Day of the Midwife.

On 11 May nurses and midwives from across Coventry and Warwickshire will come together for the third annual celebration event for International Nurses’ Day and International Day of the Midwife. The event will consist of a procession through Coventry city centre leading into a ceremony at Coventry Cathedral.

The ceremony will showcase the incredible work of nurses and midwives in the area as nominated members of staff share their experiences. This year we will also be joined by the award-winning Coventry’s Hollyfast Primary School choir, who will welcome the nurses and midwives into the Cathedral.

Mandy Braimbridge, Assistant Director of Nursing for Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, said, “This year is a year of celebrating as we all come together to mark 70 years of the NHS. We are incredibly excited that we are able to launch the celebrations with our annual event. This year we are inviting current and retired nurses and midwives, so we can thank everyone who has dedicated themselves to nursing or midwifery.”

The event will be attended by nurses and midwives from Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust and student nurses and midwives from Coventry University.

Sarah Noble, Head of Midwifery at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust said: “It’s a real honour to lead the procession of nurses and midwives to Coventry Cathedral this year for what will be fantastic event. I hope to see lots of familiar faces as we join our colleagues from across the region to recognise the invaluable contribution that nurses and midwives make worldwide.”

If you are a retired nurse or midwife, who worked in Coventry or Warwickshire,  then we would like you to join us for this event. Please contact communications@covwarkpt.nhs.uk for more information.
