About us

Referral criteria:  via GP, any health professional, adult neurodevelopment, child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), community mental health team (CMHT). All referred patients must have a (CAMHS or adult) NHS diagnosis from any NHS Trust and a Coventry or Warwickshire GP up to age 25 for transition patients, lifelong for adult NHS diagnosed patients (currently not Right to Choose or private diagnosis).

We provide a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) transitions clinic which is consultant-led, to support patients through their initiation (starting medication), titration (slowly adding medication until therapeutic dose achieved) and stabilisation on ADHD medication. Once stabilisation is achieved reviews are held annually via our nurse-led annual medication review clinic for patients with a non-complex ADHD need, who are in established medication treatment and under shared care with their GP (no age limits, once referral criteria met).

Our current commissioning criteria funds three service pathways

Adult ADHD Annual Review Service - Our nurse led service for all age adults  with an NHS diagnosis of ADHD and on stable ADHD treatment and only need an annual review to maintain effective treatment with GP via shared care agreement and annual review with our service. GPs have agreed to reviewing patients every 6 months at their practice to ensure safe monitoring and are the first point of call if things change or are no longer effective.

ADHD Transitions Service - A consultant psychiatrist led provision for patients aged 18 - 25 years old transitioning from CWPT's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and requiring ongoing ADHD medication treatment. This includes nursing support for titration, psychoeducation, medication monitoring and physical health observations. Complex patients may be seen as a joint medical and nursing review. This may involve input from the locality community mental health team alongside the support offered in ADHD services.

Adult Neurodevelopmental Service - psychiatry - A consultant psychiatrist led provision for adult patients either at point of confirmation or post diagnosis who have never had treatment before. Patients have a full medical health assessment, initiation of ADHD medication, titration and monitoring. This includes nursing support for titration, psychoeducation, medication monitoring and physical health observations including; electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and liaison with varying relevant specialities, for example cardio, endo and CMHT.

Prescription request

Please send your prescription requests to:  ADHDprescription.request@covwarkpt.nhs.uk

In your request, please provide the following information:

  • your full name and date of birth
  • medication you are requesting
  • blood pressure, pulse and weight reading -  this is essential for us to assess your safety during titration
  • if you want to collect or have it posted

Making referrals

Health and care professionals only

If you are making a referral, please send it to adhdadulttreatmentonlyreferrals@covwarkpt.nhs.uk. Please ensure adequate time allowed post referral for those leaving inpatients or transferring from CMHT, prison, moving into area.

Please note due to commissioning provision, we are unable to accept referrals for new patients with a private diagnosis, or an overseas diagnosis. These patients would require GPs to refer to private / Right to Choose services where applicable.

Important: We are a treatment service only. If you require diagnosis of ADHD, please redirect to  AdultNeurodevelopmental.Team@covwarkpt.nhs.uk

We only offer outpatient appointments for ADHD medication needs and we do not care coordinate or case hold.

If any part of your referral is regarding anxiety, mental health needs or suicidal ideation, members of the public should call 111 and select the mental health option for urgent crisis care.

Health and care professionals only can email MHReferrals@covwarkpt.nhs.uk.
