Learning Disability and Autism Service is changing its name to Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental Services

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust's Learning Disability and Autism services (LDA) Directorate is being renamed to the Learning Disabilities and Neurodevelopmental Services (LDNS) Directorate.

This change will make it clearer for service users, their carers and families, GPs, our staff and partners to understand what the service offers.

For a short time, people may see both names used while we update our information and materials.

We are renaming the service to Learning Disabilities and Neurodevelopmental Services, or LDNS, because service users, their carers, families and professionals have told us that autism is not the only neurodivergent condition which is supported within our services, and this can lead to confusion.

LDNS is easier for GPs, referrers and professionals to identify and refer to, and the new name supports clearer communication and better signposting.  Our patients and their carers should see no change to the care and support they receive currently.

What does this mean for our patients and their carers?

A person's care will stay exactly the same. There are no changes to:

  • Appointments or clinicians
  • Referrals or waiting lists
  • Support available
  • Crisis and urgent help
  • Contact details

The only change is the name of the service.

People receiving care and support from our Learning Disability or Neurodevelopmental Services do not need to take any action.  Everything will continue as normal.  If a patient or their carer has any questions, they are welcome to talk to their clinician or our admin team.
