CWPT leadership rated ‘Good’ by CQC

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) has today announced that is has once again been rated 'Good' for how well-led it is by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following an inspection in April.

The CQC's latest inspection recognised a strong culture of care and compassion across the Trust, with staff proud of the support they provide to people using CWPT's services.

Inspectors reported that CWPT's leaders were experienced, visible and respected by staff, people who use services and partner organisations. The report highlighted the Trust's strong and collaborative relationships with local councils, health partners and voluntary organisations, as well as established systems for reporting, investigating and learning from incidents.

The CQC also recognised CWPT's growing culture of quality improvement, with more than 1,000 staff trained in quality improvement methods to support staff-led innovation and improvements to services.

Mary Mumvuri, MBE, Chief Executive Officer at CWPT, said:

We are delighted that the CQC has rated CWPT 'Good' for how well-led we are, and I am incredibly proud of our staff and everything they do every day for the people and communities we serve.

The CQC's recognition of our compassionate culture, visible leadership, strong partnerships and commitment to quality improvement is something we should all be very proud of. These achievements belong to our staff, who continue to show such dedication, professionalism and care, often in incredibly challenging circumstances.

I would like to thank every member of staff for their continued hard work and commitment. It is their passion for the people we support that makes such a difference, and it is a privilege to lead such a dedicated workforce.

The CQC also identified areas where CWPT needs to continue its focus and improvement. These include ensuring staff and people who use services are fully involved when significant service changes are being considered, continuing to strengthen processes for raising concerns, supporting staff following a period of significant change, and improving the quality and availability of performance data.

Mary Mumvuri added:

While we are celebrating this positive recognition, we know that there is always more we can do. We welcome the CQC's feedback and will use it to help us continue to improve.

We know our staff have experienced a great deal of change in recent years, and we need to keep listening to them, supporting their wellbeing and making sure they feel confident that their voices are heard. We also know how important it is that patients, carers and communities are meaningfully involved in decisions about our services.

Alongside this, improving the quality of the data we use will help us better understand our performance and make sure we act quickly where improvements are needed.

A 'Good' rating is an important achievement, but it is also a foundation for the next stage of our journey. We will continue to work with our staff, patients, carers, communities and partners to build on what we do well, learn from the feedback we receive and keep improving the care and experience we provide.

The CQC said it was encouraging to see CWPT's leadership team committed to creating an environment where good care can thrive and working closely with partners to improve people's experiences.
