Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust to provide specialist inpatient children and young people’s mental health services for the Midlands
Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) will now provide specialist NHS inpatient mental health services for children and young people across the Midlands, at Parkview, Birmingham, following a competitive tender process.
The service, which supports young people with complex mental health needs requiring inpatient care, was previously operated by Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC). The transition to CWPT marks an important step in strengthening the delivery of high-quality, specialist mental health care for children and young people across the region.
This change has been designed to ensure that the care and support provided is the best it can be, through delivery from a dedicated specialist mental health Trust. As a provider with extensive experience in mental health, learning disabilities and services for autistic people, CWPT brings access to a broad, highly skilled multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists, and wider support staff, enabling the delivery of holistic and integrated care tailored to each young person's needs.
Importantly, continuity of care remains, with staff currently working within Parkview having transferred to CWPT under TUPE arrangements, meaning that the same experienced and compassionate team will continue to care for young people on the unit.
CWPT worked closely with partners, families, and stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition. The Trust commits to work hard to further enhance the service, building on existing strengths while introducing opportunities for innovation and development in line with best practice in mental health care.
