Calling experts by experience - join the Medicines Safety Improvement Programme
Help shape safer medicines and better support. Your experience matters.
The Medicines Safety Improvement Programme (MedSIP) is working with people with a learning disability, families, carers, health services and social care teams to improve the safe and appropriate use of psychotropic medicines and ensure people receive the right support at the right time.
We are now moving from planning to testing and improving new ways of working across Coventry and Warwickshire. We're looking for people with lived experience of a learning disability to help make sure these changes truly improve people's lives.
What are we trying to improve?
MedSIP is testing changes that aim to:
- improve joined-up care between services
- support safer and more appropriate use of medicines
- improve day-to-day support, not just medication
- help prevent crises and respond better when they happen
- ensure people feel calmer, safer and better supported
Some of the projects include:
- improving and standardising Health Action Plans
- improving the quality of medicines reviews in primary care
- involving pharmacists in Care, Education and Treatment Reviews (CETRs)
- improving communication between social care and psychology teams through shared multidisciplinary working
Why we need public and patient involvement/ experts by experience (EbE)
No one understands the impact of services better than the people who use them.
We want to work with people with lived experience, families and carers to co-design improvements, review information and resources.
Tell us what works and what does not and help shape how services are tested and improved.
Help us demonstrate impact
We are also interested in developing case studies and real-life stories that show:
- how improvements have affected people's daily lives
- better experiences of medicines reviews
- improved communication between services
- reduced reliance on medication where appropriate
- better support, independence and wellbeing
Your stories will help us understand whether these changes are making a meaningful difference and guide future improvements.
How can you get involved?
You can choose the level of involvement that suits you:
- share your experiences in interviews or workshops
- review patient and family information
- join specific improvement projects
- attend meetings and discussion groups
- provide feedback on new approaches being tested
You can be involved as much or as little as you like.
