NHS 75 Staff Stories: Virginia Keith
Virginia Keith - Speech and Language Therapist
How long have you been in the NHS?
I began to work in the NHS just before my 19th birthday as a trainee nurse. I qualified as a registered general nurse in 1987 and worked as a theatre nurse and specialised in anaesthetics and recovery nursing. After 12 years, I worked in private hospitals for a few years before changing my career. I studied for a Speech and Language Therapy degree and began working again for the NHS in 2000 until the present day.
Why did you choose to work in the NHS?
I wanted to be part of a public service that gave lots of opportunities for different areas of work and be part of a supportive team.
Describe your role in 100 words.
I’m currently employed as a Speech and Language Therapist. I help children to communicate successfully, so that they can engage in all areas of their lives.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I like the opportunity that it gives to be creative and imaginative, and how it offers social interaction opportunities and help to others.
Describe your favourite memory of working at CWPT in 100 words.
I don’t think I have one favourite. However, our joint speech and language therapy training sessions are always enjoyable.
