IAPT service set to expand

IAPT service

We have successfully secured investment to deliver an innovative integration programme.

The funding is to design, test and deliver an integrated service in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) for patients with Diabetes and respiratory conditions (COPD and Asthma).

Helen Stephenson, Head of IAPT for our Trust, said: “I was thrilled to be informed that we had secured two of the fifteen successful bids, from 74 applications across the country, to deliver Integrated IAPT alongside our physical health colleagues.”

The new integrated service is to benefit people with low level mental health needs such as mild to moderate depression and anxiety disorders (panic disorder, agoraphobia, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias, and obsessive compulsive disorder) in the context of Diabetes and respiratory conditions (COPD and Asthma).

People with physical long term conditions, such as Diabetes or cardiovascular disease, also often have mental health problems. When mental and physical health problems are treated in an integrated way people can achieve better outcomes.

Helen Stephenson continued: “It is an exciting time for IAPT services and an excellent opportunity to work in conjunction with other specialist services in primary care settings to support our patients in maintaining their physical and mental well-being in the community.”
