Quotes from some of our volunteers

My volunteer work has helped me regain my confidence in my abilities. I have enjoyed taking on varied tasks and responsibilities and working with staff members at all levels who have been encouraging and supportive – Shabier Hussain

My role is to keep the staff chill out spaces stocked, so staff can have a well-earned rest and have a munch on something nice to keep their spirits up! I have found the experience of volunteering enjoyable and immensely rewarding – Victoria McCallion

(Staff Member Feedback) Hi Pete , I just wanted to pass on a message of thanks that I received from Stanley ward (manor site) from my team there.

“Not sure when we’ll see you, other than virtually, due to the current situation on the ward! Thanks for all the goodies you have sent, they are appreciated (and needed!)”

I wanted to pass this on as it really does help having you deliver and do all of this for us Pete. I am not currently involved with face to face work with any of the gentlemen on Stanley ward so now they have so many positive cases of covid I am not going directly on the ward until needed. Having you deliver these things for us really helps me feel connected with the team still. So, thank you Pete – Dr Kate Martin

I’m Pete (image right), I’ve been volunteering at the Caludon Centre for over a Photograph of Pete Rand month now. My role as Journey Walker to provide access to PPE for patients and staff has been a very rewarding one. It’s so important that the staff, who are working extremely hard to look after the people in their care, are provided the lifesaving equipment that they need to safely carry on with their extraordinary efforts. Personally, I’ve found interacting with the staff very rewarding; they always say thank you and are happy to see a friendly face. We are all doing our bit, be it us volunteers right up to the psychologists. And these staff deserve all the help that they can get – and as volunteers we are part of this massive team that continues to provide both lifesaving and life changing care to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. And the patients and staff know this. I’ve been provided with the necessary PPE within my role; the volunteer services staff have ensured that I am safe in my role – if I had any doubts about this then I wouldn’t put myself or others at risk. I have additionally kindly been put forward to receive the vaccine against Covid-19 which I am extremely grateful for and makes me feel even more part of the team. In the spare hours I have to carry out my volunteering role I always finish my shift with a sense of wellbeing and satisfaction that I’ve been able to give back to the people who helped me once upon a time - Pete Rand
