Trust deploys camera health monitoring technology to improve UK dementia care
Today we have announced a pioneering partnership with Oxehealth to deploy camera-based health and activity monitoring technology to monitor and optimise treatment of dementia patients on our Stanley and Pembleton Dementia wards, at the Manor Hospital in Nuneaton.
We are collaborating with Oxehealth to deploy its unique software, which turns digital video cameras into health monitors, to improve the quality of care for vulnerable dementia patients and support staff workflows. Oxehealth’s unique system will support us to manage the risk of patient falls by reporting on a number of activities, including when vulnerable patients have got in and out of bed, enabling staff to intervene before a fall occurs.
In addition, this partnership will explore how Oxehealth's vital signs and other activity monitoring solutions could further improve patient care and support staff in their duties. Oxehealth will work hand in hand with our clinicians to identify the unique needs of patients and clinicians, and will adapt the technology accordingly.
The partnership will include deployment of the prototype software in 12 bedrooms in wards focused on the care of elderly dementia patients for 18 months. During this period, we will work with Oxehealth to develop workflow solutions on the Stanley and Pembleton Dementia wards and with the aim of customising the technology for further wards across the Trust.
We provides a wide range of mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages through in-patient, community and day clinics, as well as specialist services. The Trust has nearly 300 residential beds covering a range of different patient groups including elderly dementia, specialist assessment and treatment for adolescents, adult acute admission and psychiatric intensive care and a range of units for children.

Two successful trials at Broadmoor Psychiatric hospital have demonstrated the effectiveness of Oxehealth’s technology in monitoring patients in secure mental health hospitals. Oxehealth is continuing to work with a number of mental health services and welcomes further opportunities to deploy its products through research collaborations visits and pilot partnerships.
