Triple recognition for Trust services

Three Trust services were shortlisted at the prestigious Health Service Journal awards, this year.

Working with other agencies in our area, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust’s veterans service, learning disability services, and the Trust’s perinatal mental health service were all shortlisted.

All three were recognised for the contribution they are making to improving services for the people we serve.

The veterans service has successfully ensured that NHS mental health services are improved for ex-service men and women who have served in any of the British Armed Forces, such as The Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

Achievements during the year have included ensuring there is an enhanced mental health care pathway for veterans, so services are better prepared to meet their needs, and the establishment of formal partnerships with other organisations who work to support veterans. The service has set up a Champions Network and a Veterans Forum to help spread the word about the help available. More people who have been veterans are getting the help they need as a result of this work.

Learning Disability services run by our Trust have played their part to the full in the national Transforming Care agenda that is working to improve the way that all agencies work together to support people with a learning disability in the community wherever possible, rather than in a hospital bed.

This has included establishing an Intensive Support Team, who are able to make sure that a prompt response is available for patients outside of normal working hours, to help people with a learning disability maintain their independent living in the community.

And the Trust’s perinatal service has participated fully in a comprehensive review of maternal mental health services provided across the area, resulted in better streamlined services for local people.

Three NHS Trusts, three maternity units and three clinical commissioning groups work together to ensure an equitable service for women across Coventry and Warwickshire. The result has attracted national interest from other areas interested in adopting a similar approach.

Explained Trust Chief Executive Simon Gilby: “All our staff work extremely hard to meet the needs of the people we serve. These three services deserve the credit for having led the way in ensuring that their patients’ needs are fully recognised, working with the other NHS agencies in our area. Being shortlisted in this prestigious and competitive awards scheme is a very significant achievement, so very well done to all of them.”
