Three generations of one family proudly celebrate 71 years of nursing between them in this 70th year of the NHS.  All three trained in Coventry and have worked for Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (or former organisation) during their careers.

Pat, Jane and Rebecca are a great example of how a career in nursing can be inspirational through the generations.  All three celebrated International Nurses’ Day with hundreds of other nurses from across Coventry and Warwickshire at Coventry Cathedral on 11 May 2018.

Jane Hill, Associate Director of Operations – Safety, Quality and Professional Practice at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust has been in nursing for 30 years. Jane said: “I remember my first role as a Staff Nurse on the Ear, Nose and Throat Ward at the Walsgrave Hospital, now University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.  After this I moved into community nursing in Coventry. Community health services are where my interest and real enthusiasm lies.  I am passionate about leading and supporting the delivery of safe, high quality services.”

Pat Kerley is Jane’s mum and Rebecca’s Grandma. She has been retired for 18 years, after a nursing career lasting 36 years.  Pat’s last role was as a Community Nursing Sister in Coventry. Pat said: “Nursing has changed tremendously over the years.  I can remember the days when we used to sterilise equipment by hand. The use of technology in the NHS and nursing has been one of the biggest changes. I am very proud of both Jane and Rebecca.”

Jane’s daughter, Pat’s granddaughter Rebecca started her career in the NHS more recently in the Central Booking Service of the Trust. Following this she was seconded by the Trust to undertake her Adult Nurse Training. Rebecca is now a Staff Nurse on a Gerontology Ward at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Rebecca said: “I love my job caring for people and would really like to progress in my nursing career in this area. I was really inspired by my mum and grandma to become a nurse.  Mum is a great ambassador for the nursing profession; I wanted to make difference to people like my mum has.”
