A staff survey at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust confirms the organisation is making progress.

The Department of Health conducts an annual survey of NHS organisations to help gauge the views of staff across the country. The 2014 survey was conducted October to December 2014, and covered all occupational groups from doctors and mental health nurses to clerical workers, and from occupational therapists to estate maintenance staff.

The Partnership Trust asked all its 4,300 staff to answer a range of questions in a paper questionnaire distributed through workplaces. A total of 48% of staff responded, which was above average compared to similar trusts, giving the Trust a thorough analysis of how staff were feeling at the point the survey was conducted late last year.

All results were gathered by logistics experts Capita and reported back to the Trust without anyone else seeing any individual response.

Key findings from the survey this year show that only shown one issue which has deteriorated since our 2013 results. Of the 29 key findings, 25 issues showed no statistically significant change since 2013.

The Trust was placed in the top performing 20% of similar trusts for ensuring staff have the necessary health and safety training and equality and diversity training. Staff not working extra hours also put us in the top 20% of similar trusts.

Areas for improvement included staff motivation at work; the percentage of staff able to contribute towards improvement at work; and the percentage of staff recommending the Trust as a place to work or receive treatment.

The Trust’s Chief Executive Rachel Newson said: “We are pleased that we have only one issue which has significantly deteriorated since our 2013 results. However, we are not satisfied with staying the same and want to show significant improvements year on year.

“We recognise that the NHS is going through many changes at the moment and know how unsettling that can be for both staff and our patients, but we will continue to do all that we can to be a Trust that people choose to work and receive treatment. We have already invited staff to attend feedback events during April and May, to both present the findings of our Staff Survey and Friends and Family Test, and to engage in discussions about how we can make this a great organisation for all.

“We take the results of this survey extremely seriously, as it is one of the main ways we are able to see what staff feel about working for us, and what we can do to improve as an employer.

“We have worked hard, through our staff engagement programme ‘Equal Active Partners’, to do all we can to make improvements to the way we work, and will  continue to do all we can through initiatives like the Staff Survey to listen to any feedback that staff choose to give us.”
