Sensory garden created for adults who have complex needs
The Lodge, a Community Day Provision for Adults with Learning Disabilities and complex health needs, in North Warwickshire, held its official opening day to celebrate its new sensory garden that was created for clients and staff to enjoy all year round.
The garden was formally opened in early August 2019 by Simon Gilby, Chief Executive of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust with a host of distinguished guests and supporters, whilst the entertainment was provided by the ‘Cucamelons’ a15 strong community guitar group.
Kim Norman, Home Manager, commented: “The radical make over was achieved through the generosity and hard work of so many people from a whole range of organisations. The day services staff alongside family members have all been extremely generous with their time and support, going above and beyond to help make the garden a reality for those who use the Lodge.”
The sensory garden will be used as a calming and educational place, created with flowers, shrubs, vegetables and materials designed with the purpose of stimulating and engaging a person’s senses. The aim is to improve health and wellbeing in a unique and invigorating environment.
That support was enhanced with a long list of others offering donations and their labourer, including; Mark Master Masons of Warwickshire, Coventry and Warwickshire Charity Trust Fund, Dobbies Garden Centre, Asda, Glendale, the Trust’s Estates Department. Without their invaluable contributions and support, The Lodge’s goal to create this wonderful garden to enjoy now and in the future would have taken much longer to realise.
The team at The Lodge are extremely proud of the service they provide, and are always looking at innovative ways to improve the experience for the people who attend.
