Roving team out across Coventry & Warwickshire vaccinating housebound
Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust’s (CWPT’s) vaccination roving team have been out vaccinating the vulnerable and elderly housebound residents in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
CWPT’s roving vaccination team are supporting the local Primary Care Networks (PCNs) to deliver the COVID-19 vaccination to residents who are unable to visit their GP or local vaccination centre to ensure they receive the COVID-19 vaccination to protect them against the virus.
As of yesterday (15/2), the CWPT team have achieved the target set by the government and have offered the coronavirus vaccine to everyone within the first four priority groups including those who are housebound. The roving team have visited and vaccinated over 1,100 housebound people across Coventry and Warwickshire. This week the roving team will be vaccinating the final people who are housebound and within these groups, who were previously unable to be contacted.
The team have received some wonderful feedback from residents they have already visited with lots of thanks and appreciation.
Suzanne Coleman, Immunisation Nurse at CWPT said: “It is extremely rewarding and humbling being able to visit residents who are housebound and administer the COVID vaccine in their homes. It gives them the reassurance that the vaccine will help protect them from the virus particularly as they are vulnerable and could become very poorly if they have the virus. We hope it gives them and their families/carers peace of mind that they have had their first dose and it will offer them protection for the future.”
The team were out in Nuneaton yesterday (15/2), where they met the Nakra family. They were there to vaccinate Bansi Nakra, who is housebound. The other members of the family have all taken up their invitation of the coronavirus vaccine and have attended the Bedworth Civic Centre. Now it was their father’s turn.
Suzanne added: “Bansi was relieved and happy to have his vaccination today. The whole family were so pleased that their father will now have the protection from his first dose and they wholeheartedly supported the COVID-19 vaccination. They were very grateful to us visiting their father at home and thanked us. It was a lovely visit.”
Anyone who is housebound will be contacted by the local NHS, either by their PCN or CWPT to book their appointment and a date and time will be confirmed.
