Response to CQC’s Latest Inspection Rating of Services at CWPT
In July and August 2023, the CQC inspected three of the Trust’s core services. As a Trust, we had already implemented a significant improvement programme in the services inspected and we are pleased that the CQC report identified the positive impact of this work and that all the inspected services were rated “Good” for caring.
We know we have some work to do, especially in relation to record keeping in our community mental health services for people with learning disabilities or autism, ensuring all staff respond to safeguarding concerns and enquiries in line with Trust policies and that all staff receive and record their regular training, supervision, and appraisals. Since we received feedback from the CQC we have taken rapid action to address the issues identified. This includes:
- Implementation of a new quarterly assurance audit to ensure good practice in record keeping is maintained.
- Provision of refresher safeguarding training to our team leaders and implemented a new weekly review of all safeguarding concerns and enquiries, with strategic oversight and monitoring.
- Ensuring all locum medical staff attend monthly meetings with the medical leadership team in line with Trust policy.
- Working with manager on Hazelwood ward to ensure they are accurately recording supervision and appraisals on our electronic system.
We are pleased that the CQC report recognised improvements had been made in relation to recruitment and that patients spoke very positively about our staff, saying that they worked hard, were caring and supportive. The report also found that services had a positive culture and were keen to improve, ward environments were visibly safe and clean, and that people and those important to them were actively involved in planning their care.
We will continue to focus on our quality improvement journey and work to ensure the services meet the required standards for those who use our services.
