Patient-run café at Brooklands Hospital opened by local mayor

A new café at Brooklands Hospital will serve up fantastic work and life skills for patients.
Service users and staff at the site were joined by Mayor of Solihull Shahin Ashraf MBE and Yasmin Surti, CWPT’s Director of Operations - Learning Disability and Autism, for the grand opening last Monday (24 March).
The café, located in the Brian Oliver Centre, will be run by patients and will welcome visitors, patients and staff between 10:30am and 2:30pm, Monday to Friday.
A range of drinks and snacks such as pasties are available initially, with the range set to expand over the coming months.
Brooklands Hospital provides inpatient assessment and treatment services to adults and children living with a learning disability. The café will offer patients vocational skills, providing work experience that can, in turn, lead to opportunities for employment when they return to the community following discharge.
Thanks to our Occupational Therapy colleagues who have worked passionately to bring this important new initiative to life and providing patients the chance to build important life skills which will support them during and after their stay in Brooklands.
