Oxehealth have been working with Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) to reduce falls and associated injuries in their 24-bed inpatient dementia facility, Manor Hospital. The clinical study, run for almost two years, has found that a 48% reduction in falls at night has been achieved, which is the equivalent to a reduction of 94 falls during the period.

Further data analysis revealed the following key highlights:

  • 82% reduction in harmful falls
  • 68% reduction in A&E visits from the dementia facility
  • 49% reduction in emergency service visits to the dementia facility

The outstanding results have been achieved through enabling clinicians to act more proactively, preventing harm before it occurs through the use of alerts, warnings and reports provided by Oxehealth’s Digital Care Assistant technology.

Hugh Llyod-Jukes, CEO of Oxehealth, commented: “Proactively intervening to prevent falls is a game changer.  With the Oxehealth Digital Care Assistant, staff prevent harm to patients and free up the time they would otherwise have spent looking after an injured patient for other essential clinical activities.

These data show an improvement on the data gathered at the 8 month point, something we’re starting to see in other clinical settings too.  Introducing the Oxehealth Service enables an immediate step change in care - and then continuous improvement over time.

At Oxehealth, we are committed to publishing ground-breaking research that supports the advancement of nursing practice in the UK and internationally.  This study is the latest in our deep research collaboration with the brilliant team at the Manor Hospital and right across Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.”
