Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust has won a contract to provide health services worth more than £1.2 million.

The Trust currently delivers immunisation and vaccination services to school aged children throughout Coventry which include Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, HPV and Mengingitis C. It has now been awarded the contract to provide this service to young people across Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, as well as in Coventry. In addition the Trust will be working with all primary schools to protect and provide children in year 1 and 2 with the Department of Health recommended flu vaccination schedules to eligible children.

Staff from current providers will become part of the teams that deliver the service, from the autumn this year, on behalf of NHS England.

Julie Brotherton, Head of School and Youth Health Services at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted to win this contract and are very much looking forward to welcoming colleagues from other geographical areas to the Trust. We are keen to work with local expertise and knowledge, with the aim of increasing immunisation and vaccination uptake over a larger area”.

Mairead Thompson, Clinical Lead Nurse for Immunisations and Vaccinations at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, said: “Our very committed team currently provide a high quality service as standard in Coventry and we have exceeded our targets, by vaccinating around 5,500 children, aged 12 to 15, each year. This new contract is a great opportunity to roll that service out to other areas, and hopefully increase the number of children being vaccinated against disease.”

Dr Ashis Banerjee, Screening and Immunisations Lead, on behalf of NHS England said “NHS England is committed to ensuring that 2015/6 is another successful year for the uptake of school immunisations. Following a competitive process, we are very pleased to have commissioned Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust to deliver our school immunisation programme who will provide a high-quality, safe and effective vaccination service for children and young people across Coventry, Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. We urge parents and guardians to ensure their child receives all their routine vaccinations in order to protect them and keep them healthy.”
