New Lead Governor for local NHS Trust

Brian Loftus

Brian Loftus, Public Governor for Coventry, was elected by the Council of Governors and commenced his new post from September 2018.

Brian, who has been a Public Governor since 2013, takes over from Helen Youds who stepped down due to her retirement earlier in the year.

Amongst their other responsibilities, our Lead Governor acts as a spokesperson for the Council of Governors, represents Governors as an observer at certain Trust events/workshops and will focus on the work programme of the Council supported by the Chair and other senior officers from the Trust.

Brian said on his appointment to Lead Governor: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Lead Governor. It is very flattering that my Governor colleagues have elected me to this position and I hope I do them proud.

“I am starting my new position as Lead Governor at an interesting and challenging time for the Trust so I am really looking forward to getting involved, especially in those areas that the Council can add value and act for our communities. The Governors are all passionate about the services the Trust provide and we are here to ensure they are the best they can be for all our patients and their carers.

“I would always encourage any member of the public to join with our existing members from across Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull by joining our membership scheme, and so become involved in helping us as governors to help ensure their collective voice and needs are heard by the Trust leadership team.”

Trust Chair, Jagtar Singh said: “Brian has been an integral part of our Council of Governors since its inception and has been involved with activities across the Trust, including volunteering at numerous events, attended several specialist training sessions, as well as co-hosting training and workshops with his colleagues on the Council. He attends meetings across the community, sharing information on the Trust and encouraging the public, patient and carer groups to become involved. Brian will make an excellent Lead Governor and I look forward to working with him closely.”

The Council of Governors is made up of public, staff and appointed representatives who all help to shape the future of the Trust, whilst ensuring the local communities health needs are a priority for the Trust.
