Mental health supporter donates funds to local Centre

Bob Brolly - signing cheque

Local broadcaster Bob Brolly MBE has donated £2,000, raised through fundraising events, to the Caludon Centre’s volunteer scheme.

The Caludon Centre is a purpose built facility, based on the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire site, providing inpatient and outpatient adult mental health care, and learning disability inpatient services.

Brolly, who has a keen interest in mental health and has previously supported fundraising events at the Caludon Centre, wanted to make the donation to directly enhance the patient experience. He received an MBE in 2003 for services to broadcasting and the work he has done with charities, and has raised over £2m over the years.

Tariro Gumbo, Volunteer Services Co-ordinator said: “We are delighted Bob has chosen to donate these funds to the volunteer scheme. The scheme empowers volunteers to contribute to the service user experience, and engage with patients to support them to take part in various activities.

“We want to develop our volunteer roles by increasing involvement from people with lived experiences of mental health; making them ‘experts by experience’. The donation will go towards developing this programme through training, seminars and conferences; equipping them fully to give peer support.”
