Largest vaccination programme gets underway in Bedworth and Nuneaton
The first patients in Bedworth and Nuneaton have received their coronavirus vaccines today. Amongst them were an 81-year couple, Vera and Mick Farn from Harts Hill. They received their vaccination at the Bedworth Vaccination Centre, Bedworth Civic Hall.
Mr and Mrs Farn said they were delighted to be the first people to receive the vaccine and offers them like so many others a light at the end of the tunnel.
The coronavirus vaccine is currently being offered by those who are aged 80 and over, care home residents and staff, and NHS staff.
Patients who are registered with the following practices will be invited for a vaccination in the former BrightHouse store in the Abbeygate Shopping Centre: Arbury Medical Centre, The Grange Medical Centre, Camp Hill GP Led Health Centre, Riversley Road Surgery, Old Mill Surgery and the Chaucers. This service is provided by six GP surgeries working together as part of a Primary Care Network.
Other patients who are registered with the following GP practices will be invited to the Local Vaccination Centre at Bedworth Civic Hall for their vaccination: Red Roofs Surgery, Queens Road Surgery, Chapel End Surgery, Manor Court Surgery, Stockingford Medical Centre, Whitestone Surgery, Bedworth Health Centre, Bulkington Surgery, Woodlands Surgery, Rugby Road Surgery, The Old Cole House Surgery. This centre is being managed by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust and they will be working with the above practices.
People may also receive a letter from the NHS inviting them to the mass vaccination site at Millennium Point in Birmingham. This is an extra choice provided by the NHS, but patients, the majority who are elderly and frail, also the option of waiting to be called by their vaccination centre.
Dr Sarah Raistrick, Chair of Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “The vaccination programme has been set up is slightly different with CWPT delivering the vaccine in support of local primary care for the Bedworth site at the request of the local GPs. I know these sites are much anticipated and your GPs (Nuneaton site) and CWPT (Bedworth site) will work at pace to vaccinate all the eligible groups. Your surgery will contact you and our advice is not to call the NHS, wait for us to contact you.”
Simon Gilby, Chief Executive of CWPT said: “We are pleased that we were able to work together with the local practices to deliver this service. I know the COVID-19 vaccination is very welcome in Nuneaton and Bedworth and we look forward to vaccinating as many people as possible within the next few weeks.”
