Health and social care organisations across Coventry and Warwickshire are joining forces in an attempt to find different ways to improve services and patient experience.

The Perfect Week – which will run from 11-18 November – will see some staff work in different organisations in order to gain a greater understanding of how they operate.

A number of different ideas will be trialled during the week with the ultimate aim to improve the flow and experience of patients within the health and social care systems across the region.

It is the second time Coventry has held a Perfect Week, but the first time for hospitals in Warwickshire and frontline community services in both areas.

Called a ‘Perfect Week: A Bigger Buzz’, organisations taking part include George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust which run the four hospitals in the region.

Others taking part include Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, NHS Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), NHS South Warwickshire CCG, NHS Warwickshire North CCG, West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust and adult social care teams at Coventry City and Warwickshire County councils.

Aims of the Perfect Week include avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions, freeing up beds and capacity, reducing delays to discharge and ensuring the right care is delivered in the right place the first time.

During the week more than 100 non-clinical staff across all organisations will be volunteering to work with partners to resolve issues and free up time of clinicians. Ideas to be trialled include social care staff responding with ambulance staff to some appropriate calls to frail elderly patients in a bid to offer better home support and avoid hospital admissions.

Perfect Week co-ordinator at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, Veronica Ford, said: “We are working hard to improve our links with other parts of the healthcare system in our area and across the country, and Perfect Week is a welcome opportunity to raise the profile of this work across all organisations.

“We are clear that the community and specialist services we provide have a key role to play in ensuring people receive the most appropriate care for them and in a timely fashion."
