It is estimated that at least one in four people will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives and, during Mental Health Awareness Week, people in Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull are being urged to take care of their mental health and wellbeing through a variety of services available from Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.

Self-help therapies, specifically designed to support people who are living with stress, panic attacks, anger, negative thinking, worry and social anxiety are hugely successful and are receiving outstanding reviews with over 90% of people using resources saying they are very effective.

The Don’t Panic app, developed by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, was launched in 2014 and is available to download, completely free of charge, to iPhone and Android mobile phones as well as also being available to listen to from a purpose-built website.

Dr Dan Barnard, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Psychological Services at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted to receive such a positive response to all six titles that are available through one download of the Don’t Panic app.

“All six titles are available to listen to directly from the website, or to download direct to mobile phones so that people can access therapies at a time and place that is most convenient for them.

“The therapies available via the app are based on cognitive-behavioural therapy, which is the most researched and proven approach to managing psychological problems.

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust offer a range of services that are all designed to support emotional and physical health. One of the services available, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), provides timely support for people who are suffering with common mental health problems, such as stress, anxiety and depression, with accessible, timely and effective interventions, which support recovery.

Stephanie Fryer, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and IAPT Clinical Lead, said: “The IAPT services are free and confidential to anyone who is aged 16 or over and is registered with a GP in Coventry, Warwickshire or Solihull.

“It can be very difficult to cope with life’s little ups and downs from time to time and a bit of help from trusted NHS services can make all the difference to emotional and physical health and wellbeing.”
