NHS Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull Talking Therapies is partnering with Coventry University to deliver targeted mental health support during University Mental Health Day (13 March), offering students innovative ways to manage their mental wellbeing through a series of engaging events.

The partnership includes two dedicated events designed to support Coventry University students with their mental health in different formats:

A Wellbeing Wednesday crafting event will take place on Wednesday 12 March 2025 from 2-4pm at The Hub at Coventry University, where students can engage with mental health professionals in a relaxed, creative environment. This face-to-face event, hosted by the Students' Union Activities team, offers students the opportunity to learn about mental health support while participating in therapeutic crafting activities.

This will be followed by an online workshop on Thursday 13 March 2025 (12pm-12:45pm) focusing on stress and anxiety management. The session, "Managing Stress and Anxiety: Practical Strategies for a Healthier Mind", will be delivered via Teams and is exclusively available to current Coventry University students.

Sheri Ashton, Head of Service for Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression, said : "With one in four adults in the United Kingdom experiencing mental health issues, it is crucial that we provide targeted support for our student population. These events offer practical strategies and a safe space for students to discuss their mental wellbeing, while learning valuable techniques they can use throughout their academic journey. Through initiatives like this, we're demonstrating our commitment to supporting individuals facing a range of challenges, from academic stress to broader mental health concerns."

Sonya Gardiner, Chief Operating Officer at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) added : "Supporting student mental health is a key priority for our Trust. Through our partnership with Coventry University, we are ensuring that students have access to professional mental health support when they need it most. Our relaunch as NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression marked a commitment to providing recommended psychological therapies and ensuring well-trained therapists for our community."

The online workshop will provide students with comprehensive strategies including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques
  • Effective methods to adjust behaviours and thoughts
  • Worry time management
  • Self-care strategies
  • Positive data logging
  • Problem-solving approaches
  • Breathing exercises
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Activity scheduling

Although this two-day initiative is for students at Coventry University, Talking Therapies is dedicated to supporting everyone's mental health. Students struggling with their mental well-being are encouraged to seek help through their school or Talking Therapies.
