Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust’s (CWPT) OP Courage Urgent Pathway Coventry Hub won Most Outstanding NHS/ Healthcare Winner and Most Outstanding Overall Winner at the first Services Awards on 28 June for their support for veterans.

The service provides support to veterans who could potentially go into crisis or are in crisis. Some of the issues service users may face include debt, substance misuse, homelessness, suicide risk and relationship difficulties.

The nomination cited the teams’ selfless commitment to the support of veterans, which has included providing food parcels, attending breakfast clubs, and ensuring veterans have comprehensive safety plans in place to support them and minimise risks to their wellbeing.

Anne Prendergast, Urgent Pathway Manager, said:

“We were honoured to be nominated for this award. There were some truly inspirational stories on the night and to win both the NHS healthcare award and the overall achievement award meant everything to us. We will continue to grow and improve our support for veterans to ensure they receive the best care possible.”

Mel Coombes MBE, Chief Executive at CWPT, said

“We’re proud of the OP Courage Urgent Pathway Coventry Hub for winning not only the award in the NHS category but also for the most outstanding overall winner at the first Services Awards. The team are specialists in providing dedicated mental health and wellbeing support to our veteran community and it is wonderful to see the impact they make, and their dedication being recognised in this way.”

OP Courage is a partnership of eight specialist organisations that work together to provide a veteran’s mental health and wellbeing service across the Midlands. This includes supporting people who are due to leave the armed forces, reservists, and those who have already left.
