Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust (CWPT) is reaffirming its continued commitment to supporting carers this Carers Week 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve Triangle of Care accreditation. This year's Carers Week theme, 'Caring about Equality', will focus on the inequalities and challenges faced by the estimated 5.8 million unpaid carers across the UK, and highlight the need for greater recognition and support for carers.

As part of the Trust's initiative to reach Triangle of Care status, CWPT is encouraging both staff and carers to actively participate in the week's events, furthering its mission to build stronger, more supportive partnerships with carers.

The Triangle of Care model is an approach that supports a therapeutic partnership between carers, those who are using mental health and social care services, and the staff providing those services. With the aim of promoting safety, recovery, and sustained well-being, the Triangle of Care ensures that carers are recognised as integral partners in the care and treatment process. This approach is especially important in mental health care, where carers are crucial to providing support and ensuring better outcomes.

Mel Coombes MBE, Chief Executive Officer at CWPT said, It is estimated that 1.5 million people across the UK care for someone with mental health problems, yet despite contributing an estimated £184 billion annually to the UK economy, many carers sadly report feeling undervalued and unsupported.

The need to acknowledge the vital role carers play in recovery and to provide better support for carers is at the heart of CWPT's Triangle of Care framework. We are fully committed to improving care and support for carers as well as the individuals they support, evidenced by our ongoing effort to implement and achieve full accreditation from the Carers Trust.

Louise Oldnall, Associate Director of Allied Health Professionals at CWPT, said: 'CWPT recognise the importance and value of including and supporting carers as part of our service delivery model.  We know that this promotes safety and recovery and helps to sustain well-being for people accessing our services.

Our inpatient and crisis teams across MH and LD&A have demonstrated their support for carers through their self-assessment and are actively carrying out improvement plans.  We have a growing network of Carer Champions and are developing our partnerships with local Carer support organisations.

Carers Week 2025 is organised by Carers UK, alongside charity supporters Age UK, Carers Trust, MND Association, Oxfam GB, Rethink Mental Illness, The ME Association and The Lewy Body Society.

Together, the eight charities are welcoming individuals and organisations to join them in raising awareness, to increase visibility for carers with decision makers, services, employers, communities, and businesses.
