Community nursing conference a huge success

Nursing conference

The Integrated Community Services team at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust hosted an exciting day full of talks and workshops for 80+ attendees on Community Nursing and the NHS Five Year Forward View.

The event, which took place at the Novotel in Coventry, focussed on the NHS Five Year Forward View which was published in October 2014 by NHS England. It sets out a positive vision for the future, based around seven new models of care.

Speakers on the day included Dr Lynne Wigens, Regional Chief Nurse at NHS England, Jim McCabe, Director of Service at Age UK and Sue Phillips, Head of Transformation from South West CCG.

Yvonne Brown, Head of Community Nursing at the Trust said: “It was a great day. Delegates from Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust and South Warwickshire Foundation Trust were engaging with the speakers and really used the opportunity to share practise and experiences. Integration was the focus of the day and how working together is key to sustainability within health and social care.

“In the morning, speakers set the scene with the national picture and the political drivers for local change, with the most poignant presentation coming from a carer who shared his experiences of how integration of services can result in increased quality of care. In the afternoon, workshops on a variety of topics from frailty to diabetes gave an opportunity for delegates to explore what they could take away from the day and implement within their local areas – influencing care from the grass roots. The day reminded us that we achieve far more when we work together, whether that be as individuals, teams or organisations”

Jo Morris, General Manager within Integrated Community Services said: “I am so proud to be part of such a dynamic and committed service. The conference really celebrated the role of the Community Nurse and the benefit it brings to the health of our communities. A big thank you to all those who contributed and attended.”
