Child and Family Services Standards for the delivery of a positive patient experience

Child and Family Services have identified a set of core standards and hallmarks for achieving positive patient experience that should form the basis of all service delivery. These core standards have been developed in consultation with staff and service users/families.

  • Give compassion and understanding - children and those who care for them have needs and a voice that should be heard.
  • Listen carefully - parents and carers are experts about their children.
  • Be needs led – provide care that takes into account the needs and priorities of the whole family.
  • Build on the positives – families want to build on what is going well to help improve or manage things that are challenging.
  • Communicate well – families need to know who you are, what is going to happen, receive feedback and expect sharing of information.
  • Join the dots – make sure that opportunities are not missed to work with others across agencies.
  • Instil confidence – be professional, explain your thinking and provide evidence for making informed decisions about care.
  • Provide early help – offer support, information and advice at the earliest point possible.
  • Be open and honest - families need to understand what they can expect from our services.
  • Ensure easy access – families need to be able to access services in clear and simple ways.
