Chaplaincy Volunteer awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community in Rugby, Warwickshire

Jane Muers

A Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust (CWPT) Chaplaincy Volunteer has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2024 New Year’s Honours List.

The BEM is awarded for contributing a “hands-on” service to the community in local areas. This includes sustained service of local charity or volunteer work, or shorter-term innovative work that has had a real impact.

Jane Muers has been volunteering with CWPT for over 12 years since retiring as a Clinical Psychologist from CWPT.

The award recognises Jane’s service to Rugby, including contributions to chaplaincy across the community, supporting Rugby prison, and the local Alzheimer's and dementia networks. It also recognises her role within the Quaker community.

Upon receiving the BEM, Jane Muers, Chaplaincy Volunteer at CWPT, said:
“The award of the medal recognises the contribution of all the members of all the groups of people with whom I have been able to contribute to the community in Rugby and all those who work in so many other ways for the good of this community.”

“I am very touched that others have shown appreciation for what I do. I feel I share this honour with all those I have worked with over the years.”

“It has been lovely to see how pleased people are about the award and how they smile. It seems to have given an uplift and given others pleasure - people do like good news!”

Simon Moult, Chaplain and Coordinator of Faith Services, and Jaspreet Singh, Volunteer Coordinator, said:
“We are delighted to celebrate this recognition of Jane’s hard work and contributions to Rugby. She is so humble and compassionate and gives all of herself in everything she does. Her care enables others to find purpose and meaning in their lives. We are truly blessed to have her as a volunteer for CWPT.”
