Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) are celebrating reaching a huge milestone with 100,000 people vaccinated from COVID-19.

CWPT run the large Vaccination Centre at Stoneleigh NAEC, the Bedworth Civic Hall and are also setting up special ‘pop up’ clinics every weekend in Rugby. They achieved the milestone yesterday (Tuesday 4 May) at Stoneleigh vaccination centre when Jonathan McCormick, aged 41, from Rugby received his first vaccine.

On receiving his first dose, Jonathan said:

“I am honoured to be the 100,000 person to be vaccinated in Coventry and Warwickshire by CWPT. COVID has had a devastating effect across the country and remains a real danger - even to younger people where risk is seen to be lower. It’s clearly important that everyone accepts their vaccine invite to do their bit and help us all get back to normality. Today I am one step closer to protecting myself, my family, and friends, and I am delighted about it.”

This is a major milestone in the progression of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Coventry and Warwickshire and is a testament to the incredible hard work of all the volunteers, health workers and staff involved. As a thank you, staff celebrated with a well-earned cake as a small recognition for all their hard work and dedication.

Now, having passed the 100,000 mark, our local vaccination programme is now inviting more members of the public to have their vaccine, as Assistant Director of Operations, Rob Spencer comments:

“This is an amazing achievement and it couldn’t have been achieved without all the hard work and dedication of our staff including those on the front line at the vaccination centres and the roving teams, the call handlers booking the appointments and staff working behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly.

“Also, I would like to thank the public for attending their appointments and playing their part in the battle against COVID-19 and following the guidelines at their appointment.

“To help keep the road out of lockdown on track, people must also have their second vaccine. Without this, you and the local community will not have full immunity and you put yourself and others at risk of serious illness from COVID-19 which will push to road to recovery backwards.

“Invitations are now going out to people in Coventry and Warwickshire aged 40 and over and we are on course to offer the vaccine to every adult by the summer. I want to urge anyone yet to be vaccinated to take up the offer.”

People in Coventry and Warwickshire will receive a text message with a link enabling people to pick a convenient slot at an NHS vaccine centre like NAEC Stoneleigh, or pharmacy-led service, through the national booking service website. People who cannot go online can call 119 to book an appointment.

To book your vaccine you can also book via the national booking system: Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine - NHS (www.nhs.uk) which will offer you different options of where you would like to have your vaccine.
