Shashi Carter

shashi-carter My reason for standing as a public Governor for Foundation Trust in Coventry:
Having 23yrs of experience within the Voluntary and Public sector I would relish the opportunity to be further involved in these exciting and challenging times.

Education: BSc Honors in Health Sciences degree.

Employment:
Voluntary Sector: Manager – Welfare Information & Advice Centre, 6yrs Public Sector: Coventry City Council – Health Development Officer 13yrs and Senior Health Development Officer managing the Health Inequalities Team 4yrs.

Knowledge of: Government White paper on Health, Wanless Report and Communities 4 Health, Marmot Report and New NHS reforms.

Responsibility: £100,000 budget for projects funded by City Council & DH which require special auditing procedures. Using national and local data through Health Impact Assessment services are tailored where most needed.

The team delivers advice, guidance and intervention to “hand to reach” individuals/groups within priority areas and seeks to empower people, build self-esteem to improve health and wellbeing and promote self-care. In order to impact on inequalities and to successfully support this work I have in-depth understanding of cultural and social “norms” within these communities.

I have successfully led/managed a multi-disciplinary team as demonstrated in the men’s health, cervical screening, diabetes and cancer projects. I have extensive experience of prioritising and organising complex workloads. The work I undertake is predominantly developmental in nature and is about designing and implementing innovative projects which successfully engage with “hand to reach” communities in a way that is sustainable and “makes a difference”.
