Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) has won the Health and Safety Technology Innovation Award in the 2023 Health and Safety Awards. The win was secured for the development and implementation of a unique environmental app, to improve the safety and risk management of the Trust’s inpatient wards.

The app, developed in-house by the Trust’s IT team presents data from ward checks in real-time and means that any safety issues to the ward environment can be reported and resolved more quickly.

The app was launched in March 2022 in inpatient mental health wards and has since been rolled out across the Trusts’ inpatient learning disability and autism wards.

The development of the app was led by Solutions Architect, Daniel Kinney, who worked closely with the Trust’s estates teams, medicines management and clinical colleagues. It was also shortlisted in the Excellence in Risk Assessment and Management award category.

Mary Mumvuri, Chief Nursing Officer and Deputy CEO at CWPT, said:

“The environmental app is a brilliant example of how CWPT is putting patient safety first through digital innovation, and we are immensely proud of our IT team for this award. The app has made a huge difference to the speed at which our teams are able to respond to environmental safety issues in our wards, which ultimately improves the safety and wellbeing of the people we support. Congratulations to all involved.”

Daniel Kinney, Solutions Architect at CWPT said:

“We’re so proud to win this award. Developing the app was truly a collaborative effort across departments and with the support of our clinical colleagues. The safety of our patients is of the utmost importance, and I am proud to have played a small part in enabling an improvement in this area.”
