Last week was Psychological Professions Week, an annual celebration to appreciate the contribution of our colleagues in Psychological Professions and the difference they make to people’s lives every day.

There are over 20,000 psychological professionals working in NHS-commissioned healthcare in England, and we have around 610 staff in CWPT across 19 of the 20 occupations in the professional cluster. We have:

  • Clinical, Forensic, Counselling and Health Psychologists,
  • Adult, Child and Adolescent, and Family and Systemic Psychotherapists,
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapists, other Therapists and Counsellors,
  • Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Education Mental Health Practitioners, Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners, and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners,
  • Clinical Associates in Psychology, Assistant Psychologists and
  • Art, Music and Drama therapists (who are also AHPs).

We’re extremely proud of our growing Psychological Professions community here at CWPT and held a development day on Tuesday 14 November at the DoubleTree by Hilton, to celebrate the progress we’ve made to grow and develop the workforce in line with national policy and plan for the future.

The event was structured around the five strategic domains of NHS Health Education England’s Psychological Professions Workforce Plan: Grow, Develop, Diversify, Lead, and Transform.

There were talks from staff in our newest roles at CWPT to highlight the latest career pathways and development opportunities we have available, as well as presentations from our senior leaders and other members of the psychological professions to highlight the importance of diversifying our workforce, strategic priorities over the coming years, and the role of the Psychological Professions in our Trust and system transformation programmes.

Dr Su Thrift, Trust Lead for Psychological Professions and Services, said: “Psychological Professions Week is a great opportunity to highlight the successes of our psychological professions community here at CWPT. We have such a breadth of roles within the Trust and I’m extremely proud of the substantial expansion we have had in this workforce over the last few years. We have successfully trained and integrated multiple new roles and extended the psychological provision to our local communities. Psychological professionals are embedded within all our Multi-Disciplinary Teams and services and are core to the services we provide. The development day was an excellent opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made and the expected further growth in the future.”
