Brian Loftus (Lead Governor)

Brian-Loftus

  1. My priority is the quality of care offered to patients.
  2. My special interest is in care for people with mental illness.
  3. Medication alone will not result in recovery unless combined with effective talking therapy and help with social problems such as isolation, poverty, stigma and abuse that can lead to hopelessne ss and despair.
  4. For staff and carers to provide the best care they need to feel valued and supported.
  5. The Trust needs to meet government targets. However merely ticking boxes and following procedures does not in itself result in high quality care delivere d with humanity and kindness.
  6. My background: Aged 69, recently retired having been a social worker in a community mental health team in Coventry for 19 years. Qualified as a social worker in 1977 and worked with families and children before moving into specialist mental health work in 1993. Helped organise the national Defeat Depression Campaign and worked with the British Association of Social Workers in efforts to combat discrimination and stigma.
  7. Finally I would say that I have a good understanding of how services are provided by the Trust and local authorities. I have seen much excellent work and also seen ways that patients carers and staff are failed. Now that I am retired I would like to offer an independent voice to ensure that the best possible care is provided.
