Dedication and quality care awarded at celebration event

Larches Ward staff

A diverse group of NHS heroes from Coventry and Warwickshire received awards for their top performance at our Q Awards celebration on Wednesday 5 July.

Winners included a team of community mental health workers in Nuneaton, a team who provide respite care for children with a learning disability in Solihull, nurses who specialise in wound care based in Longford, Coventry, a mental health inpatient ward team based at St Michael’s Hospital, Warwick, and volunteers who work with ex-forces veterans all across the area.

This year’s Q Awards, held at the Hilton Hotel in Coventry, saw more than 300 nominations submitted for Trust services as diverse as podiatry, community mental health, children’s occupational therapy and wheelchair services.

For the last nine years, we have held the annual Quality (Q) Awards, to celebrate the achievements of our staff and services.

Nominations are submitted from patients, families and carers and also from within our Trust staff for particular individuals or teams who have gone above and beyond in providing high-quality care for service users.

The winners for 2017 included street triage worker Alex Cotton, for her dedication in setting up a new service for Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Community psychiatric nurse Aimee Brewer, based at Swanswell Point in Coventry, won Chief Executive Simon Gilby’s individual award, while his team award went to the  community mental health team based in Nuneaton.

Jagtar Singh, Chair, handed his award to the psychological therapy team for their work with black and minority ethnic communities. He said: “The Q Awards night is always an important night in our annual calendar. All too often, staff don’t get recognition for the dedication and hard work they put in every day.

“Our Q Awards aim to help put that right, and this year’s event was another great occasion which showcased some excellent people and some truly remarkable and high quality care. I think the night showed again that our Trust is a great place to care, to be cared for and to work.“
