Child and Family Services “Caring and Effective” – CQC Report

Jed Francique - Associate Director of Operations

Our Child and Family Services have all been rated as ‘Good’ by government inspectors.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors visited the services in April this year as part of a comprehensive inspection of care provided by us.

Our Child and Family Services provides a range of physical health, mental health and learning disability services for children and young people. These services include Health Visiting, Immunisations & Vaccinations, Community Paediatrics, Continuing Care, Learning Disability respite homes, Speech and Language Therapy, plus Rise, the mental health service for children and young people.

In the report, the CQC rated aspects of services as outstanding for care. The inspectors said: ‘We observed staff that were extremely kind and compassionate and ensured privacy and dignity needs were met for children and their families at all times.”

The inspectors also rated all services as ‘good’ in leadership, safety and effectiveness.  All were also rated as good for responsiveness except with Specialist Community Mental Health Services for children and young people, which was deemed to require improvement in this area.

Inspectors also commented on how children were active partners with the planning of their care wherever possible and that parents were closely involved throughout the planning and delivery of their child’s care.

The report described that: ‘Children were truly respected and valued as individuals, encouraged to care for themselves, and were supported to achieve their full potential within the limitations of their clinical condition.’

Feedback from parents of service users reinforced the statement and agreed that “staff went the extra mile” and the care they received exceeded their expectations.

The report also noted that within Rise that: ‘There was effective working across different pathways within the children’s service in order to meet the individual needs of the young people. Families told us that staff were responsive to the needs of the young people and used a variety of techniques to help support the young people with their treatment.’

Jed Francique, Associate Director of Operations, said: “We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback for all of our health services for children, young people and families.”

“The hard work and commitment from our staff has been formally recognised through the inspection. We will continue to work hard to deliver high quality care, to develop our services and to work closely with other organisations to ensure we can meet the needs of children, young people and their families.”

The report is one of 15 the inspectors have provided concerning services provided by us. Overall, the Trust is rated as ‘requires improvement’.
