Community Mental Health Teams

Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) provide services to adults aged 18-65 living in their area. Many of these people have time-limited disorders and are referred back ot their GP when their condition has improved.

Some users may remain involved with the team for on-going treatment, care and monitoring. As part of the Care Programme Approach (CPA), they would receive regular multidisciplinary reviews confirming the need for ongoing specialist support.

Teams typically consist of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Support Time Recovery (STR) workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Psychologists.

Referrals are made by GPs and other professionals.
